Navigating Forward: Our Engagement in Particle Physics beyond HL-LHC
The European Strategy for Particle Physics mandated ECFA to devise a roadmap for Detector Research and Development (DRD) to enhance Europe’s particle physics program. This initiative, overseen by the ECFA Roadmap Panel, involved coordination and task forces covering various technology areas and cross-cutting topics. General Strategic Requirements (GSRs) outlined key needs, such as support for R&D facilities and international collaboration. The roadmap, along with technology and cross-cutting chapters, was compiled into a comprehensive document and a condensed summary. It heavily influenced the proposal preparation process for AIDAinnova, ensuring alignment with major challenges identified. Almost all Detector R&D Technologies (DRDTs) and GSRs were addressed by AIDAinnova’s work packages (WPs), demonstrating strong synergy. The roadmap, endorsed by ECFA and presented to the CERN Council, prompted the development of an implementation plan focusing on establishing Detector R&D Collaborations and implementing measures to address the GSRs. In this framework, our group is part of the DRD6 (Calorimetry) and DRD7 (Electronic Systems) collaborations, actively contributing expertise and resources to further the goals outlined in the roadmap. Our involvement in DRD6 and DRD7 underscores our commitment to driving innovation and addressing the critical needs identified in the roadmap.
